Hit-and-run leaves bicyclist dead near Lake Mead Blvd in Las Vegas

A man was found lying in the street in east Las Vegas early Friday morning, suspected to be the victim of a hit-and-run. According to police, the incident was reported at around 2:30 a.m. after a bus driver saw the man and his bicycle on Lake Mead Boulevard and Losee Road. The collision took place in the eastbound lanes of Lake Mead, just before the intersection with Losee. As per a preliminary police report, the bicyclist was riding in the left lane on Lake Mead when the accident occurred.

Investigators examined evidence at the scene and reviewed video footage, which showed that a 2018 Kia Optima had hit the bicyclist, throwing him onto the road. Shortly after, a 2022 Ford Econoline box truck ran over the man as he lay on the roadway. Medical personnel arrived at the scene and pronounced the man dead. Detectives were called in to investigate the incident. The driver of the Ford stopped their vehicle near Losee Road but was unable to identify what they had hit. They were later located and assisted police in identifying the Kia that had fled the scene. The driver of the Kia was identified as 32-year-old Kevin Searcy, a Las Vegas native.

Help in a Crisis

Following a traumatic event, people often feel helpless, confused, and experience emotional shock. They are confronted with a situation for which they are totally unprepared.

Often there is no one available in the immediate aftermath of a tragedy to guide the victims through these difficult hours. The TIP volunteer provides this necessary temporary support until persons involved in the crisis are able to depend on family, friends, neighbors, and other resources in the community.
