Sparks, NV (July 24, 2020) – A pedestrian crash turned fatal on a roadway in Sparks this past Wednesday evening. One person lost their life and five others were injured.

The crash took place on Battle Born Way at approximately 6:00 p.m. under the overpass for Kietzke Lane and Victorian Avenue. According to local news sources, 25-year-old Juan Guerrero intentionally ran his vehicle over five young individuals who were walking underneath the overpass on Battle Born way. He has been arrested in connection to the incident.

Local news sources report that Guerrero reportedly got into an altercation with the group of individuals earlier in the day. Later in the evening, the same group was headed north by foot on Battle Born Way. Guerrero happened upon them as he was driving up the same roadway. Authorities state that he drove his vehicle directly into the group of people, killing one and injuring four others.

One 18-year-old female was pronounced deceased at the scene of the collision by medical professionals. Two 17-year-old males, one 19-year-old male, and a 22-year-old male were all transported by ambulance to Renown Medical center for treatment of critical injuries.

They all remain in critical condition at the present time.

Juan Guerrero attempted to flee the scene but was later apprehended and arrested by local police. He currently faces a murder charge, four counts of battery with a deadly weapon causing substantial bodily harm, and five counts of failing to stop and render aid at the scene of a fatal collision.

Local authorities will carry out an investigation into the circumstances of the crash.

We would like to offer our sincere condolences to the families of the deceased. Our thoughts are with them and everyone that was affected by this tragedy. There is nothing more devastating than the unexpected and sudden loss of a family member especially if the accident that took their life could have been avoided.
