DUI Suspect Arrested After Killing A Man Riding An Electric Bike Near The Strip

Police were called to the scene of an accident on Thursday, October 3rd at around 4:00 p.m. near Harmon Avenue and Lamar Circle located between Koval Lane and Paradise Road.

According evidence at the scene, witness statements, and video surveillance a Mercedes Benz traveling at a high rate of speed down East Harmon Avenue at the same time an E-bike rider was crossing the street.

The 26 year-old bicycle rider was thrown from his bike after being hit by the Mercedes. The driver did not stop at the scene but drove to a nearby parking lot. Where he parked the vehicle and ran from the vehicle.

The bicycle rider was taken to University Medical Center with life threatening injuries and later died as a result of those injuries.

The driver was later located and taken into custody after showing signs of impairment and failing a field sobriety test.

The driver was identified as 27 year-old Luis Fernando Fernandez has been charged with DUI, hit and run, and reckless driving and is currently being held at The Clark County Detention Center.
