Truck Driver Fails To Stop At Red Light, Leaving Bicyclist Dead

A fatal Crash involving a bicyclist was reported early Monday morning around 7:30 a.m. at the intersection of Blue Diamond Road and South Valley View.

According to police the bicyclist was traveling west on Blue Diamond Road and was attempting to cross Valley View in the marked crosswalk on the north side of the intersection.

At the same time the drive of a tractor-trailer was heading south on Valley View Blvd. approaching Blue Diamond Road in the right turn lane on a solid red traffic signal.

According to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police the truck driver failed to stop at the red light and hit the bicyclist as they entered the tractor-trailers path.

First responders attempts life-saving efforts at the scene, despite the best efforts the bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the truck remained at the scene and did not show any signs of impairment.

The bicyclist has not yet been identified and the crash continues to be under investigation. This is the 150th traffic related death this year in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Departments jurisdiction.
