Motorcycle Vs. U-Haul Leaves Rider Dead After Crash In The South Valley Saturday

Blue Diamond Road and South Las Vegas Blvd. was the scene of a deadly crash Saturday afternoon according to Metro Police.

The accident involved a motorcycle and a U-Haul just after 4:00 p.m. Saturday.

According to evidence, video footage and witness statements at the scene the U-Haul truck was traveling eastbound on Blue Diamond and was coming up to Las Vegas Blvd in the left turn lane. The motorcycle rider was also in the left turn lane on Blue Diamond.

The accident happened when the motorcycle failed to negotiate the left turn, leaving the turn lane it was in and crashing into the side of the U-Haul. The motorcyclist was separated from the motorcycle and landed under the U-Haul truck.

First responders pronounced the motorcycle rider dead at the scene. It is not known if impairment or speed played a role in the crash. No other information was given about the driver of the U-Haul. This is the 157th traffic-related fatality in LVMPD’s jurisdiction so far this year.

No more information is available at this time.

Speeding was responsible for an average of 30 deaths per day in 2022, resulting in a total of 11,000 traffic-related fatalities. It was a factor in 29 percent of all deaths on Nevada roads that year. This alarming statistic stresses the importance of following speed limits and driving safely.

Help in a Crisis

Following a traumatic event, people often feel helpless, confused, and experience emotional shock. They are confronted with a situation for which they are totally unprepared.

Often there is no one available in the immediate aftermath of a tragedy to guide the victims through these difficult hours. The TIP volunteer provides this necessary temporary support until persons involved in the crisis are able to depend on family, friends, neighbors, and other resources in the community.
