Fatal crash near south Buffalo and Peacock

Officials were investigating a fatal wreck that had roads closed early Monday morning. At around 10:38 p.m. on Sunday, two vehicles had crashed on South Buffalo Drive near Peacock Avenue, just north of Charleston. According to authorities, a black 2017 Honda Accord had been heading south on Buffalo Drive, speeding, and coming up on a sweeping right-hand turn. Meanwhile, a black Hyundai Sonata had been heading north on South Buffalo Drive. The Honda driver had crossed the center media and entered the northbound lanes, colliding with the approaching Hyundai. The impact was strong enough to push the Hyundai onto a roadside barrier.

The front of the Honda had hit the front of the Hyundai with such force that the Hyundai was pushed onto a roadside barrier. The driver of the Hyundai was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Honda was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The roads were closed for several hours as officials investigated the scene and cleared the wreckage. It is unclear at this time if any charges will be filed against the Honda driver. The investigation is ongoing and more information will be released as it becomes available.

No more information is available at this time.

Help in a Crisis

Following a traumatic event, people often feel helpless, confused, and experience emotional shock. They are confronted with a situation for which they are totally unprepared.

Often there is no one available in the immediate aftermath of a tragedy to guide the victims through these difficult hours. The TIP volunteer provides this necessary temporary support until persons involved in the crisis are able to depend on family, friends, neighbors, and other resources in the community.
