One Dead After Police Pursuit In Lyon County

A police pursuit in Lyon County leads to one mans death. Lyon County Sheriff’s Office was called after a man appeared to be driving erratically while endangering pedestrians and other driver’s.

The caller notified the police that the suspect was at a local gas station and appeared to be impaired and was attempting to buy alcohol.

The police pursuit began Sunday just after 8 p.m. after the suspect was located.

The driver hit several cars and nearly hit some others. The suspect was said to be driving around 100 miles per hour through light travel conditions. The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office used serval measures to try and slow the driver down to no avail.

Deputies continued to pursue the suspect near Newlands Drive near Nevada Pacific Boulevard. At one point the suspect hit and disabled a police vehicle, eventually running off to a dirt road.

The suspects car eventually rolled over and turned upright and was on fire. Deputies approached the vehicle and removed the driver to begin life saving measures.

One deputy was injured and one was examined for Bio-Hazard contamination after attempting to save the suspect who was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash is still under investigation and the name of the suspect has not been released.

Help in a Crisis

Following a traumatic event, people often feel helpless, confused, and experience emotional shock. They are confronted with a situation for which they are totally unprepared.

Often there is no one available in the immediate aftermath of a tragedy to guide the victims through these difficult hours. The TIP volunteer provides this necessary temporary support until persons involved in the crisis are able to depend on family, friends, neighbors, and other resources in the community.
