Metro Police responded to a crash Sunday evening in the area of Lake Mead and Lamb Boulevards at around 7:30 p.m.
The crash involved a vehicle and an 80-year-old man on a mobility scooter.
According to evidence at the scene the man in the mobility scooter was crossing Lake Mead Boulevard outside of the marked or implied crosswalk on the westside of the intersection with Lamb.
At the same time a Mercury mariner SUV was traveling west on East Lake Mead. The SUV hit the right side of the scooter, ejecting him onto the road while the scooter was stuck under the SUV.
The driver and passenger of the SUV fled the scene and first responders pronounced the man on the scooter dead at the scene.
The driver of the SUV, Samantha Richard 32, was later located and taken into custody on charges of leaving the scene of an accident.
The identification of the victim has yet to be released pending notification of next of kin. It is not known if impairment or speed played a role in the crash.

Speeding was responsible for an average of 30 deaths per day in 2022, resulting in a total of 11,000 traffic-related fatalities. It was a factor in 29 percent of all deaths on Nevada roads that year. This alarming statistic stresses the importance of following speed limits and driving safely.
