Landers County Crash Leaves Las Vegas Resident Dead
Nevada Highway Patrol reported a deadly crash in Lander County last week that left one man dead.
The crash happened on State Route 305 near mile marker 50 between Austin and Battle Mountain.
Preliminary investigation reports that a white 1991 Jeep Cherokee was traveling south in the southbound lane of SR-305 behind was a white 2026 Freightliner commercial motor vehicle. The Jeep crossed the centerline, hitting a white 2020 Ford F-150 that was traveling north.
The Jeep sideswiped the F-150, which caused the truck to veer into the southbound lane where it collided with the left front of the Freightliner. The F-150 ended up off the highway and came to land on the side of the road.The white Freightliner jackknifed, blocking both lanes of SR-305. The Jeep also ended up on the side of the road and overturned.
The driver of the F-150 was identified as 55 year-old Willian Benes of Las Vegas who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Jeep and the Freightliner were transported by medical personnel for non-life threatening injuries.
The Nevada Highway Patrol Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating the crash.
