Northwest Las Vegas Crash Leaves Pedestrian Dead And Driver Arrested
A deadly accident involving a pedestrian and a pick up truck was reported Thursday, June 19th at 5:16 p.m. at Rancho Drive and Decatur Blvd.
According to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police the driver of a pick up truck was driving southbound on Rancho Drive approaching Decatur Blvd. At the same time the pedestrian was waiting to cross the street at the marked crosswalk of the intersection.
The crash happened when the driver ran a red light and struck the pedestrian as she attempted to cross the street.
The victim, a 33 year-old woman was taken to the hospital where she later died of her injuries.
The driver of the pick-up truck, 37 year-old Angel Franco Merida remained at the scene and did not show any signs of impairment.
Merida was charged with reckless driving and booked into the Clark County Detention Center.
This is the 81st traffic related fatality in the LVMPD’s jurisdiction so far this year.
