Man struck in roadway near Tara Ave and Valley View in Las Vegas

On Tuesday afternoon, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department reported a crash in the central valley area that left one person injured. At 3:07 p.m., police were alerted to an incident at South Valley Boulevard and Tara Avenue. Investigation revealed that a 25-year-old man driving a Corolla had stopped eastbound from the alleyway south of West Tara Avenue. At the same time, a 52-year-old pedestrian was walking northbound on the sidewalk on the west side of South Valley View Boulevard, approaching the alley. The pedestrian walked into the path of the Corolla, causing the car to drive over the pedestrian, who then fell to the ground. The driver of the Toyota then fled the scene, but was later located. He was arrested for DUI and hit-and-run related charges, as he displayed signs of impairment. The pedestrian sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to UMC’s Trauma Unit. All lanes on Valley View Boulevard between Pennwood and Tara avenues were blocked from 5 p.m. until 7:41 p.m. when they were reopened. This investigation is still ongoing.

Help in a Crisis

Following a traumatic event, people often feel helpless, confused, and experience emotional shock. They are confronted with a situation for which they are totally unprepared.

Often there is no one available in the immediate aftermath of a tragedy to guide the victims through these difficult hours. The TIP volunteer provides this necessary temporary support until persons involved in the crisis are able to depend on family, friends, neighbors, and other resources in the community.
