North Las Vegas Crash Leaves Teen Moped Rider Dead
A crash involving a vehicle and a moped resulted in the death of a teenager Sunday night according to North Las Vegas Police.
The accident happened around 8:15 p.m. at the intersection of North Pecos And East Gowan Roads.
According to evidence, a Toyota Scion was traveling westbound on Gowan and trying to turn onto Pecos with a yellow arrow or yield to oncoming traffic. The moped was traveling east on Gowan at a high rate of speed. As the Scion entered the intersection to make the left turn, the moped crashed into the Scion.
The moped driver, a 16-year-old, was taken to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead from injuries.
Even though the moped rider had the right of way, the high speed when entering the intersection could have played a part in the crash.
Impairment did not appear to be a factor in this case. Police continue to investigate this accident. The identification of the moped rider has not been released.
No more information is available at this time.
