Motorcyclist killed by drunk driver in Las Vegas

On Thursday afternoon, tragedy struck in the southeastern valley when a motorcyclist was killed in a crash. According to Metro police, the accident took place at 2:34 p.m. on East Tropicana Avenue, west of South Pecos Road. Evidence from the scene, witness statements, and video surveillance showed that a Toyota Corolla had been stopped eastbound on Tropicana in a left turn lane, getting ready to turn into a private driveway. At the same time, the police determined that a 2016 Yamaha MT-07 was travelling westbound on Tropicana, in the middle lane of the three westbound travel lanes. The driver of the Toyota made the left turn, entering the westbound travel lanes on Tropicana and into the path of the Yamaha. The collision occurred when the Yamaha struck the passenger side of the Toyota. The rider of the Yamaha was thrown from the motorcycle and sustained life-threatening injuries. First responders quickly rushed the rider to Sunrise Trauma for advanced medical care, but the rider was eventually pronounced dead by hospital staff. The driver of the Toyota stayed at the scene and was found to be impaired. The driver was arrested and taken to the Clark County Detention Center to face DUI-related charges.

Help in a Crisis

Following a traumatic event, people often feel helpless, confused, and experience emotional shock. They are confronted with a situation for which they are totally unprepared.

Often there is no one available in the immediate aftermath of a tragedy to guide the victims through these difficult hours. The TIP volunteer provides this necessary temporary support until persons involved in the crisis are able to depend on family, friends, neighbors, and other resources in the community.
