Las Vegas Metropolitan Police reported an accident that involved a Jeep Compass Sunday around 3:40 a.m. on South Eastern Avenue north of East Eldorado Lane.

The Jeep was heading northbound on Eastern Avenue when it failed to maintain the travel lane and hit the median. The Jeep continued into the southbound lanes and hit another curb on Eastern Avenue. The Jeep then kept going on the sidewalk, hitting several Vegas Valley Water District boxes and a large NV Energy power pole.

The driver of the Jeep, a 31-year-old Las Vegas man was taken to the hospital with-life threatening injuries and later died at the hospital. The cause of the crash is unclear at this time. This is the 75th traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction this year.

Speeding was responsible for an average of 30 deaths per day in 2022, resulting in a total of 11,000 traffic-related fatalities. It was a factor in 29 percent of all deaths on Nevada roads that year. This alarming statistic stresses the importance of following speed limits and driving safely.

Help in a Crisis

Following a traumatic event, people often feel helpless, confused, and experience emotional shock. They are confronted with a situation for which they are totally unprepared.

Often there is no one available in the immediate aftermath of a tragedy to guide the victims through these difficult hours. The TIP volunteer provides this necessary temporary support until persons involved in the crisis are able to depend on family, friends, neighbors, and other resources in the community.
