First pedestrian fatality of 2024 when person struck crossing St Rose Parkway

A person was killed after being hit by a car on a street in the south Las Vegas valley during a ”torrential downpour of rain” on Wednesday evening. Las Vegas Metropolitan Police said in a statement that officers responded around 5:40 p.m. after receiving a call about an injury accident at St. Rose Parkway and Amigo Street, west of Maryland Parkway. That section of St. Rose Parkway lies in unincorporated Clark County, just outside the Henderson city limits.

Investigators believe a 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee was travelling west on St. Rose, while a pedestrian was attempting to cross the street outside of a marked crosswalk. ”A collision occurred when the pedestrian walked in the path of travel of the Jeep while there was a torrential downpour of rain,” LVMPD wrote. ”The front of the Jeep struck the pedestrian.”

The driver of the Jeep remained on scene and did not show any signs of impairment, police said.

Help in a Crisis

Following a traumatic event, people often feel helpless, confused, and experience emotional shock. They are confronted with a situation for which they are totally unprepared.

Often there is no one available in the immediate aftermath of a tragedy to guide the victims through these difficult hours. The TIP volunteer provides this necessary temporary support until persons involved in the crisis are able to depend on family, friends, neighbors, and other resources in the community.
