81 Year-old man struck and killed on Charleston in Las Vegas

An 81-year-old man had struck and killed a pedestrian who was walking against the crossing sign in Las Vegas on Sunday morning. It was just before 10 a.m. on May 5 when the driver of a 2018 BMW coupe was heading East on Charleston in the left lane and a pedestrian suddenly entered the crosswalk. According to police, the pedestrian was not allowed to cross at the time of the crash due to the traffic light. The driver had stayed at the scene and cooperated with the police, and there were no signs of impairment.

The intersection was closed for several hours during the morning and early afternoon while the authorities conducted an investigation of the scene. The incident serves as a reminder for pedestrians to always follow traffic signals and signs for their own safety. It is also important for drivers to remain vigilant and cautious while on the road, especially in busy areas like Las Vegas where pedestrian accidents are unfortunately common. The identity of the pedestrian has not been released, and it is unclear if any charges will be filed against the driver.

No more information is available at this time.

Help in a Crisis

Following a traumatic event, people often feel helpless, confused, and experience emotional shock. They are confronted with a situation for which they are totally unprepared.

Often there is no one available in the immediate aftermath of a tragedy to guide the victims through these difficult hours. The TIP volunteer provides this necessary temporary support until persons involved in the crisis are able to depend on family, friends, neighbors, and other resources in the community.
