Teenager killed by drunk driver while crossing Las Vegas Blvd

An 18-year-old from California was killed after being struck by a drunk driver in the southern Las Vegas valley on Friday morning. According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the collision occurred around 12:58 a.m. on Las Vegas Boulevard and Arby Avenue, near Harry Reid International Airport. Someone had called 911 to report the collision.

Evidence at the scene showed that a 2011 Dodge Durango was traveling south on Las Vegas Boulevard in the right-most travel lane, while a pedestrian was crossing Las Vegas Boulevard outside of a marked or implied crosswalk north of Arby Avenue.

The collision happened when the pedestrian entered the path of the Dodge. Medical personnel determined the pedestrian was beyond medical help and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The Dodge’s driver, identified as Christopher Thompson, 37, of Las Vegas, stayed at the collision scene, showed signs of impairment, and was arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center.

Road closures were expected in the area while police conducted an investigation. All northbound lanes have been reopened, but southbound lanes will remain blocked from I-15 to Warm Springs Road.

Help in a Crisis

Following a traumatic event, people often feel helpless, confused, and experience emotional shock. They are confronted with a situation for which they are totally unprepared.

Often there is no one available in the immediate aftermath of a tragedy to guide the victims through these difficult hours. The TIP volunteer provides this necessary temporary support until persons involved in the crisis are able to depend on family, friends, neighbors, and other resources in the community.
