73 year-old woman hospitalized after accident near S Jones Blvd

On Tuesday night, an elderly woman was hospitalized with ”life-threatening injuries” after being struck by a vehicle while crossing the street in the southwest valley. Metro police determined that the collision had occurred on West Tropicana Avenue, east of South Jones Boulevard, around 6:32 p.m. Evidence at the scene, witness statements, and video surveillance revealed that a BMW had been travelling westbound on Tropicana, east of Jones. At the same time, a 73-year-old woman was crossing Jones Boulevard outside of a marked crosswalk and entered the path of the BMW. The collision occurred when the front-left of the BMW hit the woman, according to police. Officers arriving on the scene initially reported that the woman ”appeared to have head injuries” and was transported to UMC Trauma. The driver of the BMW – a 74-year-old man – stayed at the scene and displayed no signs of impairment. ”This collision is being investigated by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Investigation Section,” police stated in a release.

Help in a Crisis

Following a traumatic event, people often feel helpless, confused, and experience emotional shock. They are confronted with a situation for which they are totally unprepared.

Often there is no one available in the immediate aftermath of a tragedy to guide the victims through these difficult hours. The TIP volunteer provides this necessary temporary support until persons involved in the crisis are able to depend on family, friends, neighbors, and other resources in the community.
