b'T ake a deep breath.hold it.think calming thoughts.now exhale slowly. Are you feeling more calm, relaxed and confident? Good. Now you know just how attorney Nancy Bernstein spends each day of her life. As a tal-NANCY BERNSTEINented lawyer and certified yoga instructor, she is constantly putting herself into positions to yield an optimal outcome. And, after working in the legal field for over 30 years, she has achieved a lot of optimal outcomes. Before becoming a lawyer, I worked for Richard Harris starting in 1989, said Nancy. I worked as a runner, receptionist, legal secretary and eventually, an attorney. With all those years in the legal field, it has not gotten old for her. I love that every day is different. Its called the practice of law because its always changing and evolving.Born and raised in Las Vegas, Nancy is the daughter of Cuban immigrants. Growing up, personal injury personally affected her family, when her brother was electrocuted by faulty city wiring while playing outside. The family did not speak English well and was initial placed at fault for the accident. The family hired an attorney to represent them in the wrongful death case against the city, and they won. It was because of this experience that Nancy became a lawyer. I will never forget how the American justice system restored my familys hope in the pursuit of freedom and truth. Thats when I knew I wanted to be a lawyer.Since then, Nancy works hard to be the best lawyer possible. Splitting her time between personal injury and criminal defense, she defends her clients constitu-tional rights. Lawyers can have an impact and enact change.Reminiscing on her career, Nancy thinks fondly of the cases she has been in-volved in. A lot of my cases have had an impact on me, but I always remember my first multi-million-dollar case. A young man was in a rollover accident and the roof of the SUV collapsed. He survived, but will be in a vegetative state for the rest of his life. During our investigation, we found the SUV roof was defectively designed and manufactured. We brought a product liability action and won. It changed the way the family was able to care for their son.Helping families care for their children is Nancys passion as a mother of three, one of whom has followed in her legal footsteps.A proud graduate of Western High School and University of Nevada, Las Vegas for undergraduate and law school, Nancy received the Pillar of Justice award from the Nevada Justice Association and was appointed to the Arts Commission to help develop the downtown Arts Factory. While Nancy wears many hatsmother, lawyer, yoga instructorwe are thrilled she wears one hat in particular: She is a genuine believer in the mission of the Richard Harris Law Firm. Nancy, we are glad to have you on the team!61'
