Trinity Co, CA (August 11, 2020) – A 15-year-old girl from Modoc County was killed when she was involved in a head-first crash with a pick-up truck on Monday, August 10th along Highway 299 near Douglas City.
Officers from the California Highway Patrol responded to the scene of the accident at around 9:00 a.m.
Initial reports indicate that the teenager was driving a white 2003 Chevrolet 1500 pick-up truck and, at the time of the collision, driving against oncoming westbound vehicles as she attempted to pass several cars while supposedly traveling at a high rate of speed.
As the young driver tried to pass a tractor-trailer, she was involved in a head-on collision with a white 2015 Chevrolet 3500 pick-up truck. The force of the impact caused her truck to be launched into the rear of the white 2015 3-axle tractor-trailer.
Both pick-up trucks came to a stop in the westbound lanes of Highway 299.
The 15-year-old sustained fatal injuries although officials have said that she was wearing her seat belt. The male driver of the other pick-up involved in the collision was treated for unspecified accident-related injuries. There was no report on the condition of the operator of the tractor-trailer.
This accident is still under investigation by officers from the California Highway Patrol at this time.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time. Our thoughts are with the injured victim and his family in hopes of a full recovery.
