Local law enforcement and emergency medical personnel were both dispatched to the scene of the fatal collision at around 6:00 p.m., slightly northbound of Highway 101.
The accident took place when a tractor-trailer crashed into the motorcycle rider in the southbound lanes of the Interstate 880 Freeway.

The operator of the tractor-trailer pulled over after the accident and was cooperative with local crash investigators.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim, Benjie Gomez, at this time.
Motorcycle Accidents in San Jose
Motorcycle-involved collisions are very dangerous, especially for the motorcyclist. Riding a motorcycle comes with many inherent risks to riders, all of which are magnified by the fact that the rider has no buffer of any kind between themselves and the roadway underneath them or the other vehicles around them.
A recent review of statistics that deal solely with accidents involving motorcycles that was led by The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration pointed out that more than half of all motorcycle-involved collisions that proved fatal to at least one of the people involved a catastrophic collision with a second vehicle.
47% of these fatal motorcycle accidents dealt with a “head-first” or front-facing impact. 42% of these accidents were caused by the larger of the two vehicles attempting to perform a lefthand turn without the proper right-of-way and colliding with the motorcyclist.
