Mammoth Lakes (July 29, 2020) – One passenger who was killed and another critically injured during a car accident at Benton Crossing Road and Pit Road on Saturday, July 25th have finally been identified.
An official with the California Highway Patrol announced that Krystal Kazmark died and Eduardo Navarro ended up severely wounded during the weekend accident.
According to police reports, the collision took place at approximately 8:55 p.m. when Josh Daugherty, the driver of a silver 2017 Toyota Tacoma pick-up truck containing two additional passengers, was heading westbound along Benton Crossing Road at an estimated 55-60 mph at the same moment that a white 2016 Kia Sorento was driving eastbound through the same rounded section of Benton Crossing Road, a little west of Pit Road.
As reported by a local news source and confirmed by officers from the California Highway Patrol, Daugherty executed a series of uncontrolled turns before he finally lost control of his truck.
The Tacoma spun in an anticlockwise direction, traversing both lanes of Benton Crossing Road and then veered into the eastbound lanes of traffic where it collided with the front portion of the Kia. The force of the impact caused the Kia to spin and ultimately crash into the passenger side of the Tacoma.
Emergency medical personnel reported to the scene of the accident where they were able to confirm that Kazmark had died at the scene as a consequence of the accident.
Paramedics transported Navarro to Mammoth Hospital via ambulance while Daugherty was taken to Northern Inyo Hospital, both with injuries that were classified as critical.
All of the crash victims are residents of Mammoth Lakes.
Law enforcement officers present on the scene stated that the two adult occupants of the Sorento had sustained severe injuries while the minor occupant had endured injuries that were classified as moderate during the collision.
This incident is currently under investigation by officers from the California Highway Patrol.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim, Ms. Krystal Kazmark, at this time. Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families in hopes of a full recovery.
