Sometimes, getting to know someone on a more personal level allows you to more clearly see why you can trust that person more than anyone else.

Often when people present only one side of themselves for the sake of a conveying business-type reputation, the withholding of the other parts of themselves can make them seem inauthentic even though the reason they are doing so is understandable and valid. One man whom we can never accuse of being inauthentic is Richard Harris.

After graduating from Las Vegas’ Bishop Gorman High School, Alison attended UNLV and earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology in 2001. She thought little about being a lawyer until called for jury duty in a two-week capital murder trial. She loved everything about the courtroom and watching the process unfold. As a juror, she saw the difference in skill level between the prosecutor and the defense lawyer. She learned great lawyers prepare well and believe in their case. Alison was hooked.

The Richard Harris Law Firm sponsored and administered the Students With A Cause PSA Scholarship competition for the 5th consecutive year.  The competition is over now, all the students have submitted their PSA’s, the judges have judged, and the awards have been given.

This year’s topic was difficult, with an assigned subject of “Helmet Safety.”  Regardless of the selected topic, I have always looked forward to watching the efforts of the students when they begin submitting their videos…and I’m always amazed at the results.  They always exceed my expectations.  This year was no exception as the students addressed this topic with their usual creativity and wit.

Selective Serotonin Re-uptake Inhibitors or SSRI’s are used for treatment of depression and anxiety. Common SSRI’s preparations are Zoloft, Celexa, Lexapro, Luvox, Paxil, and Prozac among others. Serotonin is a substance that plays a role in moods, and is produced by the brain. This substance is then re-absorbed by the body in a way that maintains a certain level of serotonin in the brain. SSRI’s increase the serotonin level in the body by blocking the re-absorption of the substance.

While SSRI’s seem to be more effective at elevating the mood in severe cases of depression than in mild cases, they also have other side effects which in some cases outweigh the benefits of taking the drug. In particular, women who are pregnant should know that there is an increased chance of birth defects in their unborn child when taking one of these medications during pregnancy.

Unfortunately, slip and fall accidents in grocery stores happen all too often. The combination of smooth, shiny floors with liquids on shelves, refrigeration units, and constant in-and-out traffic can create a dangerous situation.

If the cause of the dangerous situation is the fault of the grocery store, or the grocery store employees were aware of the dangerous situation and did nothing to correct it, the store may be responsible for damages. In fact, according to a decision by the Nevada Supreme Court, even if the dangerous condition was “open and obvious,” the owner of the premises may still be responsible for damages.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department announced starting Monday, March 3, they will no longer respond to non-injury auto accidents.  The announcement created quite a buzz on social media sites and in the news.  Many consumers do not look forward to this change, since they will be required to deal with a potential adversary, without law enforcement present.  Who decides who is injured – those involved in the accident, or the police? A broken bone, or skin laceration are serious injuries, but some injuries from a car accident are not immediately apparent.  Soft-tissue damage to the neck and back muscles, ligaments and discs may not be felt at the accident scene. Symptoms often develop over a few hours as muscle spam and pain sets in. Neck and back injuries often require physical therapy, pain management and sometimes surgery.

Never had to hire an attorney for a personal injury case and not sure how to approach it? Here are some guidelines on what to expect from the type of lawyer who can help make your case successful.

Communicating With Your Lawyer

• First and foremost, your attorney should always keep you informed about the progress of your case.
• Your attorney should discuss typical protocol for the case with you upfront so you know what to, realistically, expect. This includes an estimate of how long he or she expects the case to last and possible outcomes for the case.
